The Damascene Rose is a sparkling exploration in the subtleties of needlelace and color, producing a beautiful dimensional rose. The kit includes the ground linen, full spools of all silk threads used, and a number of specialty materials: an exclusive color of Gilt Sylke Twist, gilt scallop trim, special gilt check thread, and silk satine gimp.
The class will cover every detail of the stitching of this sparkling piece. Particulars of thread handling, frame setup, and stitches will be covered, as well as larger design questions like color and texture balance, and the varied effects possible within a limited color palette through varying thread and stitch combinations.
Lessons are in PDF download format, with limited video supplements as necessary. The class will run for 5 months, beginning February 1, 2026. Login information will be sent out at the end of January, with a link to the first lesson on February 1.
The class piece can be worked as stitched and framed as a standalone piece, or fitted inside the lid of a Thistle Threads casket. An alternate template is provided as part of the first lesson to allow you to expand the rose into a full casket panel.
