Tools used for Simple Harmony
Note: please watch the tutorials as you likely have much of what you need already even if you don’t have the exact items listed here
28 tapestry needle or #10 blunt tip beading needle as you prefer
26 tapestry needle if using a metallic thread for the over 1 letters and numbers
Strongly recommended: a hoop or frame to work your embroidery. I used a small oval hoop (6 x 3.5) from Hardwicke Manor, available from NIAH
Plastic craft spatulas to apply Yes paste, less abrasive on paper than metal spatula/palette knife. Mine are no longer available but these or these would be good substitutes.
Cutting mat
Silicone craft mat or wax paper for gluing
Flour sack towels, clean muslin, pressing cloths or similar to use while glue is drying
Fabric scissors
Paper scissors
Inexpensive scissors to cut metal woven tape (if using)
Stainless steel pins, available from NIAH under pins: Specialty Pins, Stainless (200/pkg)
Spray bottle: I used an inexpensive travel mister from CVS with a fine spray, but Mary Corbet recommends this for blocking
Ruler
L shaped ruler or similar for checking corners
Xacto knife or rotary cutter
Painter’s tape (can also substitute for artists’ tape in pattern making in tutorial #1)
Your preferred marking tool - pencil, micron pen, etc. I also used a ceramic pencil to mark cut lines on fabric but this is personal preference
Bone folder or similar (a credit card or edge of a ruler can also be used)
Toothpicks to apply rice paste and 403 Jade PVA
Putty knife or palette knife to apply wood filler
Sandpaper
#0 Philips screwdriver and the correct screwdriver for your choices of hinges
Hand drill
